Hire the Services of a Live-in Caregiver (Nanny) - Quebec, Montreal, etc.

Hire a Live-in Caregiver through the Quebec immigration program

If you are looking for a live-in caregiver who will stay with you from Monday through Friday, you may have to broaden your efforts outside of Quebec and Canada. The likelihood of finding this type of employee inside our country is fairly low. However, a vast number of candidates, who are highly motivated towards immigrating to Quebec, can be found abroad. As a matter of fact, the Government of Quebec offers an immigration program specifically designed to give them the opportunity to find work here as live-in caregivers.

Finding the Gem

Our immigration agency allows you to access the candidates' application through the Internet. You simply need to make the request. We will send you their file, in PDF format, which contains their résumé, pictures as well as work ethics. You will even be able to communicate with your future nanny through email and a phone interview.

Your future live-in caregiver either has already gone through specific training and/or has the experience needed to fulfill the Government of Quebec requirements. She will be responsible for the care of your children, an elderly and/or disabled person. Her workload may include house-work as well as preparing meals. Here is an interesting fact: the live-in caregiver you choose to hire may turn out to be a man just as well as a woman.

The Live-in Caregiver Hiring Process

Your needs must be planned well in advance, for this foreign gem can take anywhere between 8 to 18 months before she can get to your home. This invaluable future aid must face this immigration delay in order to meet the Government of Quebec requirements. She must establish proof of her work experience, level of proficiency with one of the two Canadian official languages, education, etc. The Federal Government also requires them to demonstrate they have a clean past as well as good health.

Employer Status

As long as both parties agree, there is no limit to the length of time they are hired for. As their employer, you agree to comply with the Quebec Labour Commission's standards. The work schedule will thus have to be limited to a maximum of 40 hours. Foreign live-in caregivers generally agree to the minimum wages as determined by the Government of Quebec for live-in caregivers, but you will also need to provide them with a private room that includes a television, a radio and a phone. Accommodations and meals must be provided for free to your live-in caregiver.
